Ali Rıza Beyazıt

Ali Rıza Beyazıt (1883 - 1963)

Ali Rıza Beyazıt was born in Istanbul in 1883. He graduated from Eyüp Sultan Veterinary and Pharmacist Military School (secondary school), then Kuleli Military High School and Harbiye and started his military life as a lieutenant in 1907. He taught painting and geometry in various schools until the Balkan War (1912). While at the Military Academy, he took painting lessons from Hodja Ali Rıza and Halil Pasha, who were important painters of the period.

The influence of Hodja Ali Rıza and Halil Pasha can be seen in the works of the painter, who had a talent for this art since his childhood. In 1951, he won the first prize in the drawing competition organized in Italy. He was among the founders of the Association of Military Painters and served as its president for many years. He transferred the subjects he took from nature to his canvases with his own views and intuitions. In this respect, it would not be wrong to call him a landscape master. There are many works of the artist after 1941 with the themes of Istanbul, Bosphorus and the coast. His works are in many private collections. He died in 1963 in Istanbul.
